BMW Group Malaysia today previewed the new 4th generation (G05) BMW X5 facelift. The model was first shown to the world in February last year and is offered here in the only xDrive50e M Sport version. Like the pre-facelift G05, the improved version will be sold as a locally assembled (CKD) model.

As this is just a preview, no official price is provided at this time, but the estimated price is RM530,000 (OTR without insurance), which includes a 5-year extended warranty and service package. For reference, the current X5 available in xDrive45e M Sport guise retails for RM456,620 with a standard two-year warranty, or RM497,920 with a five-year extended warranty and service package.

One of the most significant changes made to the X5 is the plug-in hybrid powertrain. The 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine has increased power, producing 313 PS (308 hp or 230 kW) and 450 Nm of torque.

The electric motor, which is sandwiched between the engine and the eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, has also been improved, now producing 197 PS (194 hp or 145 kW) and 280 Nm. Added together, the total system output is 489 PS (483 hp or 360 kW) and 700 Nm, an increase of 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) and 100 Nm compared to the previous X5 xDrive45e.

Equipped with the standard xDrive all-wheel drive system, the new X5 xDrive50e accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. If you want to rely more on the electric motor, the lithium-ion battery with a net energy capacity of 25.7 kWh (29.5 kWh total) allows you to achieve an electric-only range of up to 110 km according to WLTP standards. This was 77 km in the previous model. X5 xDrive45e before facelift.

Charging has also been specced, with the onboard AC charger now supporting twice the charging capacity of 7.4 kW. A full charge takes him 4.5 hours. This is faster than its predecessor, which can only handle up to 3.7 kW.

In terms of visual changes, the facelifted X5 features re-profiled headlamps that are 35mm narrower than before, and new ones that feature outward-pointing arrows instead of the previous semi-hexagons. Features an LED daytime running light signature.

Elsewhere, the Iconic Glow package can be specified to illuminate the kidney grille with cascading lighting. This is exactly what we are getting. Other changes include revised air breathers on the front fenders and a new design with three horizontal blades on the trailing edge.

Also noteworthy are the taillights, which form an “unmistakable X motif” with a new double L-shaped feature. As before, the new X5 comes standard with the M Sport package, which adds sportier bumpers at the front and rear.

Moving inside, the X5 follows in the footsteps of recent BMW models by adopting the BMW Curved Display. This is prominently featured with an overhauled dashboard and a high-end Live Cockpit Professional version consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, with BMW Operating System 8.5 controlling the car’s info power the containment system.

The large central display omits physical climate controls and a programmable favorites row, so most vehicle functions can only be accessed via the touchscreen. Continuing with this theme, the center console has also been updated, with a toggle-like switch replacing the traditional gear lever, surrounded by touch-sensitive buttons.

Features on the local X5 include 21-inch MV spoke style 915M bicolor light-alloy wheels, BMW light bar, Harman Kardon surround sound system, Comfort Access, Driving Assistant Professional, Parking Assistant Professional, and Merino leather upholstery. , the last can be either black or tartufo. Speaking of colors, the exterior comes in Black Sapphire, Manhattan, Mineral White, and Skyscraper Gray.
