South Korea lost 3-3 to troublesome Malaysia in Qatar on Thursday, finishing as runners-up in Group E of the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup.

Romel Morales scored a dramatic equalizer for 130th-placed Malaysia in stoppage time in the final group stage game at Al Janub Stadium in Al Wakrah, south of Doha.

Son Heung-min converted a penalty kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time to give South Korea a 3-2 lead, but the Taegeuk Warriors ended up with a shocking draw.

South Korea first defeated Bahrain 3-1, then drew with Jordan 2-2 to finish with five points.

Bahrain secured six points with a 1-0 win over Jordan on Thursday and advanced through their group.

South Korea, who finished second in Group E, will face either Saudi Arabia or Thailand, the winners of Group F. The two countries are scheduled to play each other later on Thursday, with Saudi Arabia expected to advance through Group F with either a win or a draw against Thailand.

South Korea’s round of 16 match will kick off at 7pm local time on Tuesday and 1am on Wednesday in Seoul at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, west of Doha.
