Faisal Halim’s goal gives Malaysia victory – Puskas Trophy beckons

Shah Alam – Harimau Malaya winger Faisal Halim’s incredible goal at the 2023 Asia Cup in Qatar has caused excitement among fans.

Her father, Abdul Halim Saad, called for public support if the strike is nominated for the prestigious Puskas Award.

The 26-year-old’s brilliant performances helped Harimau Malaya to a thrilling 3-3 draw against South Korea’s World Cup side in their final Group E match last January.

Mr Halim expressed immense pride in his son’s achievements, acknowledging both Faisal’s personal talent and importance to Malaysian football fans.

“Obviously, there is immense pride (for Faisal).

“But this award truly belongs to him and all Malaysian football fans. It is an unexpected honor for Malaysia on the Asian stage,” Halim told the media at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center in Kuala Lumpur.

Representing Faisal at an event for the newly established Faisal Halim DNA Football Academy, Halim spoke alongside academy co-founder Derrick Gunn (‘The Red-Headed Brothers’) and furniture company Johan & Joan. The company has pledged to donate 10% of its sales to the academy.

Regarding the nomination for the Puskas Prize, Halim expressed hope for widespread support.

“God willing, if it is destined to be so.

“Let’s all support Faisal. If we have a vote, let’s vote together and show our national pride,” he said.

Mr Halim also expressed his gratitude to Johan and Joan for their contribution to the development of the Academy.

“With this support, we will strive to produce more talented players like Faisal Halim,” he added.
