PARIS: On the final day of Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, Chanel took to the seaside for a show dedicated to the place where its famous founder launched her first boutique.

The show opened with a short ad starring Brad Pitt and Penélope Cruz, a homage to the classic 1960s French film “Les Men and Women,” set in the northern seaside town of Deauville.

On the catwalk, the star of the show was undoubtedly the giant-brimmed beach hat. It’s a nod to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s first boutique, which opened in Deauville in 1912, where she sold hats and relaxed jersey outfits to stylish beachgoers.

Her story has gained even more attention in recent weeks thanks to the Apple TV series “The New Look,” which explores her complicated relationship with the Nazis during World War II.

The new collection included a wide palette of bright pastel tones designed for winter beach walks, including pea coats, tweed suits, 1920s-style pantsuits, and turtlenecks.

Virginie Viard, the creative director who took over from Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019, has sometimes been criticized for lacking boldness.

But it “has the benefit of not losing people along the way,” actress and model Ariel Dombasle, a regular Lagerfeld muse, said on the sidelines of the show.

“It’s not flashy, it’s graceful and always successful,” she told AFP.

The women’s ready-to-wear shows on the ninth and final day of Paris Fashion Week will include famous brands such as Miu Miu, Lacoste and Louis Vuitton, while the week will conclude with a menswear show by Saint Laurent. It was added as a surprise last minute. .
