KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is considering extending its ongoing RM50 billion East Coast Railway Link (ECRL) project closer to its border with Thailand, as it seeks to reduce economic competition with its neighbour.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said the government is “open” to connecting the ECRL to Thailand’s existing or planned rail infrastructure.
