President Putin met with Aliyev and highly praised the level of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan

Russian President Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin on Monday with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on a working visit to Russia.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Putin called for a discussion on the current situation from the perspective of ensuring regional security.

As Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov reported earlier today, the two presidents continued their talks during a working breakfast, after which they will meet with veterans of the construction of the Amur-Baikal (BAM) railway.

After stating that bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are at a high level, President Putin said during the talks: The amount of trade exchanges between the two countries is steadily increasing and has already reached more than 4-6 billion dollars in dollar terms, and Russian investments are contributing to Azerbaijan’s economy. ”

President Putin pointed out that Russia and Azerbaijan have many interesting areas of cooperation.

President Putin expressed his gratitude to Heydar Aliyev, the father of the current president of Azerbaijan, for his great contribution to the construction process of the BAM railway during his time as prime minister of the Soviet Union.

The Russian Head of State said that BAM is a great and important project for the entire Soviet Union.

“We not only know it well, we remember it, we are very grateful and we cherish this memory,” he said.

President Putin indicated that he and the President of Azerbaijan will meet with former BAM employees, adding: As you probably know, we are currently working on developing the eastern region of the country. This includes the development of the Trans-Siberian Railway. All of these things were important to us and continue to be very important today. I am sure that the many years of effort and work that your father, Heydar Aliyev, put into the implementation of this huge project still plays an important role today, not only for Russia, but also for the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations. “It is completely independent considering that many of our partners utilize this transport artery in some way.”
