Hoskinson says PRAGMA adds ‘second set of eyes’ to Cardano but won’t speed development

Charles Hoskinson, creator of Cardano and CEO of IOHK, commented on the launch of the community organization PRAGMA.

In the X statement of April 22ndHoskinson said that “multiple clients and a diverse and resilient ecosystem” are essential for Cardano, and praised PRAGMA for supporting Cardano-related projects.

He further encouraged the community, saying:

“We are excited to have the group come together and start building these clients and projects.”

Mr Hoskinson said he was not aware of PRAGMA until recently and had not formally met with the group on various issues. He added that PRAGMA “will not speed up feature delivery” but will add resilience and a “second set of eyes” to Cardano’s formal specification.

Cardano ecosystem support

The Cardano Foundation has announced PRAGMA. April 22nddescribes the initiative as a nonprofit open source organization focused on blockchain software development.

The Association does not function as a funding platform. Although participants will need to find funding elsewhere, the company claims this approach will ensure long-term success.

The new association includes the Cardano Foundation and four other members: Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe.

PRAGMA is different from Intersect, an existing Cardano member-based organization. PRAGMA’s official website explains that Intersect aims to act as a governance body for Cardano, rather than an open source software development effort.

Still, PRAGMA called the two efforts “complementary efforts” that could eventually “work in tandem.”

Initial support for two projects

PRAGMA plans to support the Cardano ecosystem by hosting and supporting existing projects, facilitating the development of new tools, and acting as a “home” for blockchain projects.

In the first phase, PRAGMA will focus on only two projects. The first is a Rust-based node for Cardano called Amaru. The second is Cardano’s smart contract platform called Aiken.

By 2025, PRAGMA plans to open membership to select members of the Cardano ecosystem. After that, it plans to open itself to external blockchain ecosystems, which means that the scope of the association will not be limited to the Cardano blockchain.
