Man fined for selling illegal firecrackers

Kuching: A magistrate court here has fined a local man RM300 for selling 313 boxes containing various firecrackers and fireworks without a valid permit.

Sofiyan Omar, 31, was sentenced to a fine of RM300 after pleading guilty to the charge framed under Section 74 of the Explosives Regulations 1923 before Justice Mason Jaro Lenya Balayan. was imposed.

The court also ordered him to be jailed for three days if he fails to pay the fine.

According to the facts of the case, police raided a roadside stall along Jalan Satok at around 9:30pm on April 4, where an unauthorized firecracker and fireworks business was discovered.

Police found that various firecrackers and fireworks were being sold and stored without valid permits, arrested Sofiyan and seized 313 boxes containing firecrackers and fireworks.

Additionally, the investigation revealed that Sofiyan was operating the business without the necessary licenses and permits.

Inspector Merrilene Lindang Andrew Mann was indicted while Sofiyan was not represented.
