The 96-year-old former leader has been receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur in recent days.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s daughter says she is in stable condition after being admitted to a cardiac hospital for the third time in just a few weeks.

Marina Mahathir said the 96-year-old has been receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur for the past two days.

On Saturday, media flooded the hospital as news spread that Mahathir had been readmitted, and current Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob also visited him.

Her daughter said in a statement that she was undergoing follow-up treatment after undergoing surgery at the same facility about two weeks ago.

“His condition is currently stable and he is responding well to treatment,” she said.

His family “asks for people to pray for his full recovery,” she added.

Mahathir also spent several days in hospital for tests in December.

He has had numerous heart problems over the years, having had several heart attacks and undergoing bypass surgery.

Mahathir is one of Malaysia’s most powerful politicians.He served as Prime Minister twice for a total of 24 years.

He led the party from 1981 to 2003, returning to power in 2018 at the age of 92 and leading a reformist coalition in the wake of the massive 1MDB corruption scandal.

However, that government collapsed in 2020 due to internal conflict.
