Watch: ‘You have to pay’ – mixed reactions to Venice tourism fee trial

Tourists visiting Venice will now have to pay for day trips to the famous city as part of a bid to combat over-tourism.

The entrance fee of €5 (£4) is only required for access to Venice’s historic center as part of a pilot phase that lasts until 14 July and applies on 29 peak days (mainly weekends) .

Day trippers who don’t pay will be fined between €50 (£43) and €300 (£257).

BBC Rome correspondent Mark Loewen told visitors how he felt about the accusations.
