Bicycle thief sentenced to 2 months in prison

Kuching: A 25-year-old man was today sentenced to two months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here for stealing a bicycle.

Mohammad Azmin Parlan, 25, from Kampung Tabuan Tengah, pleaded guilty to the crime under Article 380 of the Penal Code.

Judge Sharifa Fatima Azra Wan Ali ordered the defendant to begin serving his prison sentence from today (April 26).

According to the indictment, Mohammad Azmin is accused of stealing an Urata brand bicycle belonging to a 53-year-old man.

Mohammad Azmin carried out the crime at the man’s home in Kampung Tabuan around 5am on April 24th.

If convicted, Mohammad Azmin could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison or a fine.

According to the facts of the case, around 6 a.m. on April 24, the complainant’s younger brother contacted him to inform him that his bicycle, which had been left in the house, was missing.

The complainant ordered his cousin and friend to look for the bike.

Later, his cousin told him that he saw a man known as Mohammad Azmin take a bicycle from the back of the house’s kitchen.

Mohammad Azmin was arrested on the same day after the complainant informed the police.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to stealing the bicycle and hiding it in the jungle bushes near the village.

It can be seen that the price of the complainant’s bicycle is approximately RM600.

The prosecutor, Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Irin, prosecuted the case while the defendant was not represented by a lawyer.
