kuala lumpur: Petronas and CelcomDigi are working together to harness the power of 5G to accelerate the energy industry’s digital transformation and sustainability efforts. The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Petronas’ Group Vice President of Technology and Commercialization, Adlin Azry. The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of CelcomDigi is Albern Murty, and the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Gentari is Shah Yang Razalli, the Chief Executive Officer of Gentari Green Mobility. Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof, Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology at Petronas, also attended the signing ceremony.

Through a two-year strategic partnership, Petronas and CelcomDigi will explore the potential of techno-digital industry initiatives using 5G technology to enable continuous improvement across Petronas’ operations. Additionally, the partnership will also explore opportunities to integrate clean energy solutions into CelcomDigi’s enterprise products to accelerate adoption in Malaysian businesses. Adolin Azry, Group Vice President of Technology and Commercialization at PETRONAS, said: Last year, we pioneered the implementation of 5G technology for Malaysian businesses, successfully implementing a 5G private network at Regasification Terminal Sungai Udang (RGTSU) and witnessing improved operational efficiency.

He added: “This partnership provides an exciting opportunity for us and the broader community to expand the power of 5G. Our vision is to build a robust network infrastructure that can meet these demands.” said Albern Murty, Deputy CEO of CelcomDigi. “This MoU provides an opportunity to accelerate the modernization of oil and gas operations with 5G connectivity.

For the past five years, we have been working closely with Petronas to implement a private 4G LTE network on offshore platforms and test digital use cases. Together, we have delivered a practical digital application for rig operations. For example, what was once an edge test case for “connected rig workers” is now essential to keeping rig workers productive and safe. Petronas’ openness to explore new approaches to work and innovation is a mindset that lends itself to this steady pace of testing and implementation, and is a positive driver for future collaborations. We leverage real-time connectivity and data analytics to optimize operations, realize common clean energy aspirations in the oil and gas sector, and extend his 5G-related improvements to other business sectors. I’m looking forward to it. ”
