Anwar arrives in Riyadh for World Economic Forum special meeting

RIYADH (April 28): Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim departed on Saturday (April 27) evening for a three-day working visit to attend a special meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Arrived here.

The special plane carrying Anwar landed at King Khalid International Airport at around 10:25 pm local time (3:25 am Sunday in Malaysian time).

Mr. Anwar and other members of the Malaysian delegation were joined by Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed A. El Khereij, Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, on arrival. They were welcomed by the Malaysian ambassador.

Riyadh will host a two-day WEF special conference on the theme of “Global Cooperation, Growth and Energy for Development” starting Sunday.

Mohammad said Anwar was invited by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to participate in a panel session entitled “A New Vision for Global Development” with other leaders during the opening of the special session. He said he was invited.

According to the Prime Minister’s itinerary, he is also scheduled to participate in the Joint Regional Strategic Dialogue on the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in anticipation of Malaysia’s assumption of the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. Another key highlight of the working visit will be the National Strategic Dialogue on Malaysia, where Mr. Anwar will work with prominent business leaders to explore economic opportunities in Malaysia.

On the sidelines of the summit, Anwar will hold bilateral talks with several leaders, including Jordan’s Bisher Hani al-Kasawneh and Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Mr. Anwar will also attend a special dinner hosted by the Saudi crown prince, along with other heads of state and government.

This working visit will further cement the long-standing close relationship between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia and further strengthen the bonds of personal friendship between the leaders.
