Facebook beer promotion attracts police attention and arrests

Kapit: A local man was arrested by police yesterday (April 27) following a marketing scheme to promote the sale of beer on social media.

His promotional strategy came to the attention of the police at around 8pm on Friday (April 26) when a post appeared on Facebook advertising beer priced at RM60 per box.

Kapit police chief DSP Rohana Nanu said that acting on a tip-off, a police team searched an unnumbered house in front of Kampung Surau in Jalan Abang Slaich at around 12:30pm.

During the operation, the team managed to discover seven boxes of Camel beer, believed to be an exempt product, stored in a store below the house.

The 38-year-old suspect was then taken to Kapit Police Station for further action along with the seized beer.

The suspects will be remanded under section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 to facilitate investigation of the case.
