Kuching: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng called on the public to work together to achieve rabies-free.

He hoped the public would cooperate with local authorities to prevent the rabies “disaster” from spiraling out of control.

“I call this a disaster because the situation is so serious that both cats and dogs are susceptible to rabies.”

He gave this advice during a mass rabies vaccination event organized by MBKS at the Kuching Community Hall today (April 28).

Mr Wee reminded that while everyone has the right to own a pet, everyone must be a responsible pet owner.

“We welcome constructive criticism. If it’s good, we’ll take it. Our only mission is to reduce rabies cases to zero, so whoever does the right thing… “Don’t argue with each other about what you’re doing,” he said.

Under the program, pet owners will receive free services such as rabies vaccination, pet owner license registration, and pet microchipping, and the first 100 owners will also receive a subsidy of up to RM150, it said. .

“Today is my third vaccination. The first two were conducted around Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) areas respectively.

“We are currently targeting at least 1,000 vaccinations around the MBKS area, whether it’s new vaccinations or annual vaccinations for pets.”

Mr Wee said this is one way to reduce rabies cases and appealed to the public to take care of their pets as the responsibility lies with them.
