Dewan Mesra Simunjan upgrade approved

Simunjan: The Sarawak government has given the go-ahead to a proposal to upgrade Dewan Mesra Simunjan with the aim of increasing community amenities during various activities.

Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg echoed the proposal put forward by Simunjan MP Awla Doris and confirmed the decision.

“Awla requested us to expand this hall. If God wills, we will make it happen,” he said in Simunjan in Dewan Mesra Simunjan here today (May 1). He said this while officiating at Rama Tama Aidilfitri at the district level.

Mr Abang Johari said the upgrade would involve expanding the existing hall rather than constructing a new building.

This will include additional facilities to accommodate the needs of residents and will allow them to comfortably host events such as weddings, he added.

Although the estimated cost of the project has not yet been determined, the expansion aims to provide more space for community activities both inside and outside the hall.

“Cost estimates are not yet known, but there is no doubt that it will cost some money. There is still land left in this area where we can expand.

“Activities such as exhibitions can later make use of the additional outdoor space of the hall. Inside, it can be used for activities such as forums,” he added.

At the beginning of his speech, Aura stressed the need for a larger hall due to crowding during events.

He therefore requested the Sarawak government to consider providing a bigger hall for Simunjan.
