Pakistan Hockey Team Arrives in Malaysia for Azlan Shah Tournament – Sports


Pakistan’s activities in the tournament will begin with a match against hosts Malaysia on May 4.

ISLAMABAD (APP) – The national hockey team has arrived in Malaysia to participate in the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament starting May 4.

Pakistan national hockey team departed from Islamabad International Airport on Thursday.

The team, led by Ahmad Shakeel Butt and his replacement defender Abu Bakar, underwent a rigorous two-week training camp at the Nasir Bunda Hockey Stadium in preparation for the tournament.

Pakistan’s campaign in the tournament begins with a match against hosts Malaysia on May 4, followed by a match against South Korea on May 5, Japan on May 7, Canada on May 8, and a match against hosts Malaysia on May 10. This will be followed by the match against New Zealand on Sunday. The hockey tournament will be held on May 11th.

The team consists of experienced players including two goalkeepers Abdullah and Muneeb Ur Rehman, Osama Bashir, Atisham, Mohammad Abdullah, Sufiyan, Abu Bakar and captain Shakeel Butt. Includes 6 defenders. Midfielders Salman Razak, Arshad Liaqat, Moin Shakir, Zakriya Hayat, Murtaza Yaqoob and Ghazanfar Ali were also selected.

Forwards Abdul Rehman, Hanan, Rana Waheed and Ejaz Ahmed have joined the team.

Meanwhile, seven players were selected as substitutes, including Akmal Hussain, Aqel Ahmed, Arbas, Hamad Anjum, Abdul Rehman Jr., Abdul Mannan and Rouman.

Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament is the premier international hockey tournament and Pakistan’s participation in Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament is a testament to the country’s rich hockey tradition and talent.
