Ministries must cooperate in curbing domestic violence

Kuching: To protect victims of domestic violence, there is a need to strengthen the ecosystem involving all relevant ministries.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said cooperation with the education sector and curriculum is important to prevent such incidents.

“While the education sector and curriculum aspects need to be strengthened, the ministries that supervise kindergartens need to strengthen their monitoring, and school authorities also need to carry out strict monitoring,” she said on Sunday, May 5. , he said at a Hari Raya gathering at his official residence.

Nancy also highlighted the role of the Ministry of Housing in ensuring that homes are adequately equipped to prevent domestic violence.

“Ministries in charge of housing need to ensure that there are enough rooms in housing to prevent unwanted incidents from occurring,” she said.

Nancy was responding to the recent case of a 20-year-old woman in Kampung Chua, Port Dickson, who claims she was raped by her father from the age of 12 until she gave birth. She described the incident as “disgusting” and “illegal”.

She also called for more efforts to curb domestic violence and incest.

“The health department has to come up with ideas on how to help teenagers and children through this situation.

“We hear a lot about sex education, which is very important and needs to be emphasized so that children understand and know what to do,” she added.

Nancy reiterated that incidents like this should not happen and that the ministry’s child protection team will work with police to investigate.

“Our concern is for our daughter. Even though she is home alone, she needs to be looked after. At this time, we, as a child protection team, will be working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident.” ” she added.

If the incident recurs, the public can contact the ministry’s hotline “Tarian Kasi” (15999).
