Four Malaysian men’s doubles pairs advance to second round at Australian Open

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) – Four Malaysian men’s doubles pairs defeated Australian challengers to reach the second round of the Australian Open Badminton Championships at Sydney Olympic Park today.

Cheung Hong Jiang and Muhammad Haikal Nazli defeated Jordan Yang and Frederick Zhao 21-9, 21-11. Kang Kai Sin and Aaron Tai defeated Brendan Wang and Jordan Wang 21-10, 21-9. Noor Mohammed Azrin Ayub Azrin and Tan Wee Kiong defeated Timotius Elbert and Huaydong Tan 21-11, 21-16. Wang Arif Junaidi and Yap Loy King defeated Hing Lam Chin and Ji Chin Fu 21-8, 21-7.

In the second round of the Super 500 tournament, two Malaysian pairs will once again face off against Australian pairs with Kai Sin/Aaron taking on Kanki Igawa/Ken Richardson and Noor Mohamed Azrin/Wee Kiong taking on Rizky Hidayat/Frenkie Wijaya Putra.

Wan Arif and Roy King will face Australia and England duo Oi Yi Khan and Stephen Stallwood, while Hong Jian and Muhammad Haikal will take on either Australia’s Aneesh Nirmal and Emmanuel Steven Sam or India’s Rajain Abhimanyu and Aman Nandal.
