Fox and Ronin to Use Polygon for Blockchain Innovations

Polygon, the leading Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution in the Ethereum ecosystem, recently announced two major partnerships.

The collaboration with Fox Corporation and Ronin Network aims to leverage Polygon’s zero-knowledge (ZK) technology to enhance the scalability and security of blockchain gaming and media content verification.

Polygon, Fox, and Ronin Transform Blockchain Use Cases

Ronin is a sidechain network designed to support the popular play-to-earn (P2E) game Axie Infinity. Highlighting Developers on the company’s platform will be able to leverage Polygon’s Chain Development Kit (CDK) to create their own zkEVM L2 chains, a feature that will enable permissionless game deployment.

Axie Infinity co-founder Jeff Zijerlin commented on the partnership: Emphasized Significant scalability improvements. He also highlighted the potential for even more games to be enabled through permissionless deployment. Zirlin noted the importance of aligning Ronin more closely with Ethereum, especially through AggLayer, and facilitating integrations beyond the current Ronin bridge.

On the same day, Polygon announced a partnership with Fox Corporation, where the media network giant launched an L2 chain powered by Polygon CDK.

Fox revealed that the beta version of Verify is moving to the proprietary ZK blockchain in collaboration with rollup-as-a-service platform Gelato, which allows readers to verify that an article or image is indeed from a publisher if the media is registered on the platform.

Fox will migrate Verify to a purpose-built chain focused on transparently proving the authenticity of registered content, leveraging Polygon’s ZK technology. The move to the ZK chain is essential for adoption, as it will increase capacity for on-chain content registration without competing for Polygon PoS resources.

Additionally, the Verify Protocol helps publishers establish a technical cryptographic bridge to the AI platform, allowing them to set programmatic content access conditions through smart contracts.

Verify helps consumers identify the true source of content as AI-generated text and images become more prevalent online. It gives media publishers more control over their relationships with AI platforms that scrape web content. TIME becomes the first external partner to register its content on this dedicated chain.

Fox first launched a closed beta of Verify in August 2023. Since then, more than 300,000 pieces of content across various Fox-affiliated brands have been added to Verify.

“In the future, Verify will also have the option to connect to AggLayer and join a web of horizontally scalable interoperable chains for seamless cross-chain message passing,” the announcement said. read.

These partnerships reflect the continued growth within the Ethereum ecosystem. Bitwise’s report highlights an 84.65% increase in trading volume over the past year, which is mainly due to Polygon’s contribution. According to the data, in Q1 2024 alone, transactions on Polygon within the Ethereum network exceeded $400 million.
