  • Let’s take a closer look at the 2024 Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES, starting with the price.

The Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES is priced at RM119,388 (excluding road tax, insurance and registration fees), which includes a manufacturer’s warranty of two years or 20,000km (whichever comes first).

    Engine and transmission

The new Africa Twin is powered by an improved 1,084cc liquid-cooled in-line twin-cylinder engine that produces 102 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 112 Nm of maximum torque at 5,500 rpm – a 7% increase in torque compared to the previous model.

In terms of the gearbox, the bike benefits from an improved 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, offering “a much more natural, feather-like clutch feel when initially launching off and between first and second gears.” It offers three operating modes:

    • Manual Transmission (MT) mode provides full manual control via trigger buttons on the handlebars.
    • Automatic D mode for efficient city and highway driving.
    • Automatic S mode with three levels of intensity for sportier performance.

The DCT also features off-road enhancements such as G-Switch, which improves traction and modulates gear shifts for optimal control.

    Electronic Package

The new Honda Africa Twin also features an advanced electronics package with Throttle-By-Wire (TBW) control and a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). This upgraded system gives the rider greater control with four new power levels and three engine braking levels.

This package also includes Honda Selectable Torque Control, which consists of seven intervention levels to control rear tire sliding, important for off-road driving, though the feature can be disabled if you prefer full manual control.

Another key feature the IMU enhances is Wheelie Control, which measures pitch angle and speed to adjust engine torque via the TBW. There are three levels of selectable input: Level 1 allows intentional wheel lift and smooths out sudden movements; Level 3 prevents front wheel lift; and Level 2 balances the two. Like Honda Selectable Torque Control, this feature can also be disabled if not required.

Additionally, there are four default riding modes – Tour, Urban, Gravel and Off-road – and two customizable user settings that allow riders to tune the bike’s performance according to their preferences.

    Suspension and Brakes

The bike comes standard with the Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment suspension system, but buyers can opt for an advanced system that “delivers superior responsiveness by automatically adjusting damping based on riding conditions” and comes with four pre-set modes – mid, hard, soft and off-road – as well as a customisable user mode.

Braking is provided by twin 310mm diameter brake discs mated to four-piston calipers at the front and a single disc mated to a single-piston caliper at the rear, complemented by two selectable ABS modes – On-road mode for improved braking stability on paved surfaces and Off-road mode for better control and performance on rough terrain.

The improved Africa Twin boasts an extended front fairing and a rugged, aerodynamically enhanced design.

    • 5 levels of adjustable screen
    • Full LED lighting
    • 6.5-inch TFT-LCD full-color cluster with seamless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and hands-free wireless Bluetooth connectivity
    • USB charging socket
    • Cornering lights
    • 19 inch front wheel and 18 inch rear wheel
