China, Malaysia extend visa exemption

China agreed on Thursday to extend the policy until the end of 2025, and Malaysia responded by extending visa exemptions for Chinese tourists until the end of 2026, according to a joint statement from the two countries.

Search volume for Kuala Lumpur on domestic travel platform Qunar increased 49 percent week-on-week after Thursday’s announcement. Malaysia is one of the top three international destinations on the platform, with flight bookings up 2.2 times year-on-year.

Data released by Variflight on Thursday showed that from June 1 to 19, the number of round-trip air flights between China and Malaysia recovered to more than 90% of the same period in 2019, with an average of more than 100 round-trip passenger flights per day.
