Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2024: Malaysian travel agents explore new tourism experiences

PHANG NGA, June 7 (Bernama) — Malaysian travel agents are exploring new tourism experience products in Thailand during Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2024.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) marketing manager for Malaysia and Brunei Richard Lim said Thailand was a country that all Malaysians wanted to travel to in terms of food, attractions and new experiences.

“This year’s TTM+ will see 430 outstanding sellers from across Thailand taking part, making it a great fit for buyers from around the world, including Malaysians who love to visit Thailand.

“Thailand is Malaysians’ number one favourite travel destination and Malaysian travel agents should use this opportunity to explore new opportunities, especially new attractions, food and travel destinations,” he told Bernama.

Lim said four Malaysian travel agencies participated in TTM+ this year, two from Kuala Lumpur and one each from Sabah and Melaka states.

“Thailand is easily accessible from Malaysia, with 41 direct flights daily and eight land border crossings, making it a popular weekend destination for many Malaysians,” he said.

TTM+ is Thailand’s leading annual business-to-business (B2B) travel industry event, organised to provide a platform for travel companies to connect and do business.

Meanwhile, Daniel Leow, managing director of Travel Forte Bhd in Kuala Lumpur, said he has been participating in TTM+ since 2012 and has always found good deals on Thailand tourism products.

“Thailand never ceases to amaze me, so I always return wanting to learn more. This year I am looking for new products, especially luxury accommodation and attractions for a high-end clientele,” he said.

He added that the company spends at least RM1 million each year purchasing accommodation in Thailand to provide to Malaysians, excluding food and sightseeing packages.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we plan to have around 12,000 Malaysians travel to Thailand, including cities such as Hat Yai, Phatthalung, Trang, Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya, Khao Yai, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lampang,” he said.

A total of 1.7 million Malaysians visited Thailand between Jan 1 and May 12, 2024, according to data from the Tourism Economics Department at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
