YMSC breaks record by distributing 10,200 packs of fried mee in 24 hours

Georgetown: The Young Muslim Sports Club (YMSC), in collaboration with Seeni Food & Beverage Sdn Bhd, has made it into the Malaysian Book of Record (MBOR) after achieving its target of distributing 10,200 free packets of “Mie Goreng Sotong” (fried squid noodles) within 24 hours.

MBOR official Edwin Ho presented the certificate to YMSC chairman Munowel Saddiq MKE Kader Sultan at a brief ceremony also witnessed by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at the Padang Kota Lama here yesterday.

Munower Saddiq said this success would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of the YMSC committee members and three generations of chefs from the Sini family – Sheikh Abidin AKM Mustafa (grandfather), Sini Mohamed Sheikh Abidin (father) and Syed Muhammad Hafiz Sini Mohamed (son) – towards the “Most Mee Goreng Sotong Giveaway” programme.

“I congratulate and commend the entire team who have been frying noodles day and night without rest for three generations.

“Thanks to their efforts, we have been able to successfully introduce Penang’s traditional cuisine to tourists from outside. People have come from as far as Melaka, Kedah, Perak, (and) Perlis,” he told Bernama in an interview at the Padang Kota Lama yesterday.

Syed Muhammad Hafiz said it took him 72 hours to prepare for the record, sacrificing sleep.

“First, we brought in the raw materials, and after 72 hours of preparation, we were able to fry more than 10,000 packets of noodles within 24 hours.

“One of the reasons we wanted to join MBOR was to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Seeni Foods. We’re very touched, happy and proud,” he said.

In his speech, Chow said the initiative demonstrates the active participation of the state’s people in promoting Penang.
“This initiative is in line with the Penang 2030 vision of ’empowering citizens to enhance civic participation’ and fostering a proactive, creative and critical society for the MADANI community,” he said.
The “Give Away the Most Mie Goreng Sotong” campaign was held for 24 hours from 5pm yesterday to 5pm yesterday at Padang Kota Lama and received an enthusiastic response from the public. — BERNAMA
