Bernama – Google’s RM9.4bil investment reflects investors’ confidence in Madani government

PUTRAJAYA, May 30 (Bernama) — Google’s US$2 billion (RM9.4 billion) investment in Malaysia is a positive sign that investors have strong confidence in the Madani government’s management, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

This should therefore also be an incentive for Malaysia to act smarter to improve labour productivity and at the same time attract more investment into the country, he said.

“We have been informed that Google is also considering several destination countries.

“After several meetings with Google, including my own, I believe that what we have communicated and our track record has been well received, which has led to Google announcing this investment,” he told reporters after attending the communications ministry’s monthly meeting here today.

Fahmi, who is also the unity government spokesman, said the fast realization of the investment also demonstrates the Madani government’s determination to provide a clear direction in response to investors’ demands.

Google today announced it has committed to investing RM9.4 billion in Malaysia, including the development of Google’s first data center in Malaysia and a Google Cloud Region to cater to growing demand for cloud services locally and globally, as well as an artificial intelligence (AI) literacy program for students and educators in the country.
