KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s hopes of reaching the Badminton Asia Junior Championships (BAJC) final for the first time since 2011 were dashed after a 3-1 defeat to China in the semi-finals of the 2024 tournament in Yogyakarta, Indonesia today.

The national team got off to a strong start, as in the men’s doubles, the pair of Kang Kai Sin and Aaron Tai defeated the pair of Foo Ke Yuan and Lin Shan Yi 26-24, 25-23 in a hard-fought battle to take a 1-0 lead.

However, national women’s singles player Ong Xinyi could not maintain her momentum in the second match, losing 15-21, 13-21 to Xu Wenjing.

In the men’s singles, Prince Jun defeated Razik Rosli 21-17, 21-9 to give eight-time champions China a 2-1 lead.

Later, in the women’s doubles, China’s pair of Chen Fan Shutian and Liu Jiayue defeated Malaysia’s Carmen Ting and Nicole Chau 21-12, 21-9 to reach their first final in six years.

Malaysia finished the tournament with a bronze medal, their first since 2018.
