UK Labour wins general election by landslide: exit poll

London: Anadolu Agency (AA) reported that exit polls for Thursday’s general election showed that Britain’s Labour Party is on track to win 410 seats in the House of Commons, giving it a landslide majority.

A landslide victory for Labour would mean the party would win a majority in Parliament, with 170 seats, according to a poll conducted by Ipsos UK for the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Polls will close at 10pm GMT (9pm GMT) and vote counting will continue overnight. Official results will be announced once counting has been completed in all constituencies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Once the official results are announced, Labour leader Keir Starmer will replace Rishi Sunak as the new chancellor.

Millions of voters across the UK voted to elect 650 Members of Parliament.

The centre-right Conservative Party has governed the country since 2010. It has won the last three general elections, in 2015, 2017 and 2019, and is projected to win 131 seats on Thursday.

Exit polls also suggest that the Lib Dems will win 61 seats, Reform UK 13, the Scottish National Party (SNP) 10 and independents and other parties will win 25 seats. – Bernama Anadolu
