Hanna hopes Olympic uniform controversy doesn’t drag on

SERDANG, June 29 (Bernama) – Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeo expressed hope that the issue surrounding Malaysia’s Olympic team uniforms will be resolved so that the delegation can head to the Paris Olympics in good order.

She said she had been informed that the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) was planning to revamp the uniform design.

“As I said before, there are less than 30 days until the Olympics. We don’t want to drag this issue out. If we keep blaming party A, party B and party C here, the problem will never end.”

“In sports, not only the KBS (Ministry of Youth and Sports) but all stakeholders have their role to play, especially the OCM and the NSC (National Sports Council), and I hope we go there in harmony as one team,” she said after officiating the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Martial Arts Championships at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Banquet Hall today.

On the martial arts championships, Hanna said it was for the second year that they were being held in line with the highest level committee’s decision to focus on three sports – athletics, swimming and martial arts.

“This championship allows us to develop more new talent, that’s what’s important,” she added.

This year, a total of 218 events will be competed in across six sports – Taekwondo, Silat, Silambang, Muay Thai, martial arts and boxing – for both men and women.
