Man injured in early morning fire

Kuching: A man sustained injuries to his left leg while trying to put out a fire that broke out in Kampung Pulo Hulu here today (July 7).

The State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (Bomba) received a distress call about the incident at 1:11 am.

Firefighters from Petra Jaya Fire Station were subsequently dispatched to the scene and subsequently extinguished the fire at the scene with the assistance of Tabuan Jaya Fire Station.

Firefighters arrived at 1:20 a.m. to find two homes on fire, one two-story home completely destroyed and the other with 10 percent fire damage.

Witnesses at the scene said the fire started on the second floor.

Bomba reported that the man had attempted to put out the fire before firefighters arrived on the scene and had injured his left leg.

The man was then transported by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

To put out the fire, the team used a 300-foot-long hose with two nozzles in one blast to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring houses.

A total of 18 firefighters were involved in the blaze, which was brought under control by 1:40 a.m.

Firefighting efforts were completed at around 2:42 a.m., but the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
