Sarawak Sukma team wins the women’s division of the International Volleyball Invitation Championship

Shiv: The Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukuma) team proved themselves by winning the women’s category at the Sarawak International Volleyball Invitation Tournament 2024, while Bangkok (Thailand) emerged victorious in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Thailand’s Sarakham and Malaysia’s Hero 99 came in second and third respectively.

In the men’s category, Sarawak Sukma A, Saraburi from Thailand and Sarawak Senior came second, third and fourth respectively.

Bukit Asek district assemblyman Joseph Chien Jin Ek officiated the closing ceremony of the week-long tournament at the Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium in Rejang Park here yesterday.

A total of 11 teams, including countries from Australia and Thailand, participated in the tournament, which was hosted by the Sibu Volleyball Association and began on July 2nd.

The tournament will be a preparation for the 21st Sukma tournament which will see volleyball, badminton and football competitions in Sibu next month.

Chien said Sarawak is poised to co-host the 2027 Southeast Asian Games and is hopeful that Sibu will host the volleyball tournament given its strong public support and the best facilities.

Among those in attendance were Sarawak Volleyball Association vice-president Dr Gregory Hee Swee Cheng and Sibu Volleyball Association president Datuk Moe Wun Ming.
