China, Guinea-Bissau sign new strategic partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping met on Wednesday with Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoko Embalo, who is visiting Beijing.

The two leaders agreed to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

They stressed the importance of the Guinea-Bissau national anthem, which symbolizes the deep friendship between the two peoples. In a statement in Portuguese, Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Cissoko Embalo said, “President Xi mentioned the national anthem, which we sing every day. The national anthem was written by the founding father and composed by our Chinese friends. This is something we will never forget. China has supported us before and after our country’s independence, and we have always stood in solidarity with China. China supports not only Guinea-Bissau, but the whole African continent.”

At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Oumaro Sissoko Embalo is on an official visit to China until July 13th.
