Office workers experience earthquake shaking inside the building

LimbangHundreds of government workers were evacuated from a building at Limbang Plaza after feeling the tremors from an earthquake that struck the Philippine island of Mindanao today.

The earthquake, which registered 6.6 on the Richter scale, struck around 10 am, causing major anxiety among workers, TVS reported.

The shaking, which lasted for about a minute, was felt strongly by government workers on several floors of the building.

Strong tremors were observed on the eighth floor, which houses the Public Works Department (PWD) office, the seventh floor, which houses the Land Surveyor’s Office, the sixth floor, which houses the district administration office, as well as the fourth and fifth floors.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the earthquake’s epicenter was 154 kilometers southeast of the Philippine city of Isabela, at a depth of 632 kilometers.

Following the incident, earthquakes were also felt in several parts of Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud and Putatan, as well as in northern Sarawak.

Following the incident, all government facilities at Limbang Plaza were ordered closed for inspection by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Despite the strong shaking, the Malaysian Meteorological Department confirmed that the earthquake does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
