Introducing Leila Khan from AFK Collection, one of the world’s largest private collections of contemporary Malaysian art.

Was your love for art, nature, or nurture?

I think it’s really both. When I was really young, my parents collected antique carpets. It’s also a wonderful art form full of history, and her mother always collected traditional silverware to bring back from her home in Pakistan. The time I spent there also exposed me to different aspects of art. Among them, I particularly liked the stunning historical sites from the Mughal era. Also, visiting museums was and still is a must on our trips.

My mother also loved buying beautiful pieces for the house. She always spent time beautifying her home, and she always had flowers everywhere. And she was really into it. interior design. So growing up, it was all around me.

But I also remember that my father, throughout his life, always taught us that it is important to be smart. We always buy things of value so that we can pass something on to our children. It gave me a sense of understanding and really appreciating the things around us. He was also a music lover, and whenever we were in the car or just lazing around, he would listen to The Beatles, Elton John, The Doors, Crosby, Stills, Nash, etc. He always told us to listen to the lyrics. He says singing is modern poetry and an art form. That left a huge impression on me, and to this day music is a big part of my life.
