Future-ready Malaysia: A valuable collaboration in artificial intelligence education

On 2 November 2023, Future Tech Innovation Research (FTIR) hosted an important gathering to discuss the AI ​​governance system and the institutionalization of Malaysia’s national AI policy and strategy. The meeting was led by Associate Professor Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) project leader. Professor Aini Suzana Ariffin was attended by representatives from various national institutions including the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Malaysian Institute of Standards and Industry (SIRIM) and the Bureau of Standards. Malaysia (DSM), AG, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and his UTM AI experts Dr. Syahid and Dr. Azizul.

The event highlighted the efforts of Malaysia’s leading experts in shaping the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) landscape. Discussions focused on developing robust AI frameworks that ensure responsible and ethical AI implementation. Participants explored the complexities of AI governance and discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with AI technologies. They emphasized the importance of a comprehensive AI policy and strategy to guide Malaysia’s AI efforts while prioritizing ethical considerations. The conference also highlighted the need for the national AI policy and strategy to evolve over time and become a dynamic entity that guides Malaysia into its AI-enabled future.
