Government steps up efforts to foster innovative culture

Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state government has prioritized and will continue to strengthen efforts to foster a culture of innovation to ensure a faster, more efficient and effective government service delivery system. He said he intended to do so. He said innovation in the public sector is closely linked to the process of thinking differently and working collaboratively to provide better services, especially to the people of Sabah.

In this regard, he said the state government has made innovation one of the key challenges to empower the state’s public sector. He said public services are the backbone of national development and the main driving force of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan through the essence of human capital and people’s welfare. “To achieve the SMJ direction, civil servants need to be more thoughtful, generate bold and proactive ideas when making improvements and innovations.” ,” he said at the 2023 Sabah Public Sector Innovation Awards Ceremony (ISAS) held in Menara Kinabalu here on Thursday.

According to him, in line with changes in technology and the country’s rapid development patterns, government agencies must constantly take steps to use new and different approaches when implementing specific policies and services. He said innovation is at the heart of a country’s progress and development, not only providing new opportunities and possibilities, but also being the driving force that moves society forward.

“Sabah, a prosperous state with huge potential, is no exception to this fact. Every day, we see incredible progress happening around the world, both in the private sector and in the public service delivery sector. “All these changes cannot be achieved without a functioning and active role of government in shaping the future of the nation, and innovation is the key to ensuring its effectiveness.” he stated. He said Malaysia has remained at 36th place in the Global Innovation Index 2023 since 2022, and for the country to continue to grow sustainably, it will need to improve its ecosystem environment, organizational working styles, and community life. He said his style needed to be significantly improved. Stay competitive through creative and innovative thinking. Hajiji said that this scenario requires civil servants to redouble their efforts to create an explosion of different innovative ideas in the service delivery system, in line with today’s growing globalization trends. He said ISAS 2023 is a testament to the state and federal government’s commitment to promoting efficiency and excellence in Sabah’s public institutions through creative and innovative activities. “This platform not only recognizes the outstanding efforts of dedicated public servants, but also serves as a channel for state and federal governments to promote innovative thinking and encourage all public servants to foster innovation in public service. Mr Hajiji said the government highly values ​​civil servants who tirelessly innovate to transform Sabah’s public sector. State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and others were also present.
