Tourism Malaysia welcomes new chairman and directors

With YBhg. Tourism Malaysia enters a new era with the appointment of Datuk (Dr.) Yasmin Mahmood as Chairman and the establishment of a dynamic Board of Directors. Datuk (Dr.) Yasmin, who has extensive experience in the technology sector, along with his eight other members, wants to foster innovation and improve Malaysia’s travel and tourism sector.

From 8 September 2023, Datuk (Dr.) Yasmin will bring nearly 30 years of experience in key positions with YTL Communications Pte Ltd, Microsoft Malaysia and MDEC. YBhg, former chairman of the Penang State Tourism Board, has been appointed from October 9, 2023. Mr. Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin will be appointed as vice chairman.

The appointment of YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, brings a wide range of industries important to tourism to the board. Members of the Malaysian Immigration Department, Ministry of Finance, and MOTAC are included.

YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing expressed optimism that the new board will strategically guide Malaysian tourism and implement reforms. Some of its mandates include promoting Muslim-friendly tourism, anticipating the Visit Malaysia Year 2026, and raising standards in the sector.

Expressing confidence, YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said, “The group’s diverse background will have a positive impact on MOTAC and Tourism Malaysia.” The new leadership’s goal is to improve Malaysia’s international attractiveness and define the future of the industry, while aligning with a successful strategic plan to increase foreign tourism.
